#24 Pioneers, #7 Vikings to meet

Nov. 19, 2004

UW-Platteville and Lawrence set up an early-season showdown by winning their opening games of the Pioneer Tip-Off Tournament Friday.

Lawrence beat Viterbo 76-59 behind all-American Chris Braier's 17-point, 15-rebound performance. Braier made a three-point basket that halted a 12-0 Viterbo second-half run and pushed the Viking lead to 51-40. Seventh-ranked Lawrence remained ahead by double digits the rest of the way. Kyle MacGillis added 16. Jeremy Fradette led the V-Hawks (1-2) with 15 points.

In the second game, the host Pioneers raced to a 21-8 lead and never looked back. UWP led 45-23 at the half and finished with the 87-55 win. The Pioneers' all-American, Brad Reitzner, led all scorers with 19 points. Freshman center Jeff Skemp, who had 16 points against the University of Wisconsin in Tuesday's exhibition game, made all six shots from the field and finished with 15 points. Sean Krause chipped in with 12 points and four steals. Billy Byrnm had 12 points to pace Concordia, who were hampered by 29 turnovers.

Concordia and Viterbo play Saturday at 1:30 p.m., with the championship game set for 4 p.m.
