PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Senior Ben Probst knocked down a single-game record of eight threes as the sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (3-1) cruised to a 77-50 victory over Augustana (Ill.) (3-1) on Tuesday night inside Williams Fieldhouse.
Probst finished with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 8-of-14 from beyond the three-point line. The eight made threes is a new single-game program record, surpassing the previous mark of seven set on multiple occasions, including by Probst himself last season and in 2022 also against Augustana.
The Pioneers found much of their offensive success behind the three-point line in the win, making 17 of 37 attempts. The 17 makes are the second-most in single game in team history, two shy of the program's all-time mark.
Both teams started out slow in the first half until a three-point by Probst and a pair of layups by juniors Miles Hettinger and Joey Fuhremann turned a two-point lead into a nine-point lead for the Pioneers at 23-14. Back-to-back three-point makes by sophomore Bristol Lewis pushed the lead up to 13 and UW-Platteville extended it a little further to lead 38-22 at the break.
The Pioneers continued its impressive three-point shooting to start the second half by knocking down six in the first five minutes to make it 58-26 behind a 12-point run. The lead hovered around 30 for the remainder of the second half as UW-Platteville won 77-50.
Senior Logan Pearson joined Probst in double figures with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. He dished out a team-high seven assists and added three steals. Junior Max Love and Lewis each scored nine points, with Love adding five assists.
For the game, UW-Platteville shot 45.0 percent (27-of-60) from the floor and 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the charity stripe. The defense shut down Augustana for much of the contest, holding the Vikings to just 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the field and 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from three-point range.
The Pioneers will remain at home for the first game of the annual Gabe Miller Classic presented by the DRA on Saturday. UW-Platteville will face Heidelberg at 7 p.m.
