Pioneers Drop Conference Contest To Titans
OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s basketball team (12-8, 5-4 WIAC) fell on the road to UW-Oshkosh (15-5, 8-1 WIAC) 75-56 on Wednesday night inside the Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh shot the ball well to open the game, as the Titans connected on a trio of threes in the first five minutes to hold a 12-6 lead. The Pioneers cut the deficit down to one a couple minutes later on a three by sophomore Carter Lancaster, but the Titans pulled ahead 24-18 with 7:31 left in the half. Buckets by juniors Ben Probst and Logan Pearson got UW-Platteville within four in the closing minutes of the half, but UW-Oshkosh made the last shot to lead 39-33 at the break.
The Titans opened the second half with a 10-point run to pull ahead by 16 before Pearson ended the run with a jumper. UW-Oshkosh went on another nine-point run to extend the lead to 23 at 60-37 with less than 10 minutes to play. The Pioneers were unable to get closer than 16 for the remainder of the game as the Titans won 75-56.
Pearson led UW-Platteville in scoring with 15 points, while freshman Max Love added 13 off the bench, including three makes from deep. Probst rounded out the Pioneers in double figures, as he scored 10 points while grabbing five rebounds. Senior Brad Nies pulled down 11 boards to pace the team. The Pioneers shot 33.3 percent (22-of-66) for the game.
Quinn Steckbauer scored 25 points and connected on five threes to lead all scorers in the game. Levi Borchert put together an efficient 21 points of 7-of-13 shooting while securing a team-high eight rebounds. The Titans shot 51.0 percent (25-of-49) and went 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) from three. UW-Oshkosh was also strong from the line, shooting 72.7 percent (16-of-22).
The Pioneers will have the weekend off before returning home on Wednesday, February 1 to face UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. for Garding Against Cancer.
