Five Pioneers earn WIAC honors
Platteville, Wis.- Five University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s basketball team members were honored by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball coaches for their play in the 2021-22 season. Seniors Quentin Shields and Kyle Tuma were named to the first team, while sophomore Logan Pearson and senior Justin Stovall were honorable mention. Stovall was also named to the All-WIAC Defensive Team after leading the league in blocked shots. Senior Alex Ranney was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Shields started all 26 games for the Pioneers and led the team with 15.3 points per contest. The senior from Chicago, Illinois, shot 41.9% from the floor and 84.0% from the free throw line. Shields averaged 3.6 assist and finished the year with a 2.0 assist to turnover ratio. This is Shields' fourth All-WIAC selection and third consecutive year on the first team.
Tuma started 25 of the 26 games the Pioneers played and was second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.7 points a contest. The Valders, Wisconsin native was second in the WIAC in rebounding, averaging 8.5 boards a game. This is Tuma's third WIAC honor and first time on the first team.
Pearson started all 19 games he has appeared in, averaging 11.8 points a game and shot 59.6%. The Appleton, Wisconsin native pulled down 3.3 boards a game and led the Pioneers with 1.7 steals a contest. This is Pearson's first WIAC honor.
Stovall started all 26 games the Pioneers played and led the WIAC in blocked shots, averaging 1.3 blocks a game. The Chicago native was second in rebounding on the team, averaging 7.2 boards a game. Stovall averaged 9.3 points a contest. Stovall received a 2021 first team All-WIAC honor; this is Stovall's second honorable mention honor and second All-Defensive team honor.
Alex Ranney has appeared in all 26 games this season, averaging 2.2 points a game, 3.0 rebounds a game and 1.3 assists. The All-Sportsmanship award is the Waterloo, Wisconsin native's first WIAC Honor.
