No. 2 Pioneers fall on the road to No. 5 UW-Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis. – In the second meeting between the two nationally ranked teams in two weeks, No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh used a 13-2 run at the end of the first half to pull ahead for good and defeat the No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville 65-51 Wednesday night in Kolf Sports Center.
OSHKOSH, Wis. – In the second meeting between the two nationally ranked teams in two weeks, No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh used a 13-2 run at the end of the first half to pull ahead for good and defeat the No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville 65-51 Wednesday night in Kolf Sports Center.
The Pioneers drop to 18-2 overall and 7-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Titans, who have now defeated UW-Platteville twice this season, improve to 16-3 overall and 6-2 in the league.
The Pioneers pulled out to an early 10-2 lead four minutes into the game but went on to shoot 31.3 percent (10-of-32) from the field in the first half. The 13-2 Titan run at the end of the half which included 11 unanswered points gave UW-Oshkosh a 32-22 cushion going into the second half.
UW-Platteville was unable to climb out of the late first half hole for the rest of the night and could not cut the Titans' lead to less than eight.
Jack Huml (Jr./Janesville, Wis.) had a career-high 16 points leading the Pioneers while Quentin Shields (Sr./Chicago) and Ben Probst (So./Madison) each added 10. Justin Stovall (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.
UW-Oshkosh had three Titans in double-digit territory while Eddie Muench had a game-high 19, shooting 7-of-17 while going 4-of-10 from behind the arc.
The Pioneers shot 32.8 percent (22-of-67) from the field, making just 3-of-20 (15 percent) from three-point territory. UW-Oshkosh shot 47 percent (24-of-51) from the field, hitting 43.5 percent (10-of-23) three-pointers. UW-Platteville went 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the foul line while UW-Oshkosh made 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) of free throws.
UW-Platteville will return to action and hit the road once again this weekend for a 7 p.m. contest at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, Feb. 5.
