No. 5 Titans beat No. 2 Pioneers in first loss of the season
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – In the first battle of two Top 5 teams in Williams Fieldhouse this century, the No. 5 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans defeated No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Platteville 83-67 Wednesday night. The loss on Bo Ryan Court snaps the Pioneers’ (16-1, 5-1 WIAC) perfect record thus far this season, a best for the program since the undefeated 1997-98 season, while the Titans improve to 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.

UW-Platteville took an early 8-2 lead five minutes into the game, but Hunter Plamann's made three-pointer knotted the game 25-25 with 5:04 left in the half. UW-Oshkosh went on to nail four more threes before halftime and the Pioneers trailed 41-32 going into the second period.
The Titans took their lead into double digits, but seven straight points by Kyle Tuma (Sr./Valders, Wis.) followed by two more from Logan Pearson (So./Appleton, Wis.) cut UW-Platteville's deficit to 58-54 and 7:08 remaining in the game. With five Pioneers in foul trouble late in the game, a plague of 12 fouls followed to bring their second half total to 20 while the Titans went on to make 17-of-26 (65.4 percent) of their free throws in the second half.
Levi Borchert's 19 led all scorers with nine coming from the foul line.
Two Pioneers finished with double-doubles. Tuma with 18 and 10 rebounds in addition to three blocks and Justin Stovall (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) with 12 points and 10 rebounds plus a team-high four blocks. Quentin Shields (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) finished with 15 points, six rebounds and a game-high five assists. Pearson was the fourth Pioneer to finish in double-figures with 12.
UW-Platteville shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the field going 6-of-19 (31.6 percent) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers were 9-of-11 (81.8 percent) from the foul line. UW-Oshkosh shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60), making 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) three-pointers and 21-of-30 (70 percent) free throws.
The Titans scored 18 off fast breaks to UW-Platteville's four while also adding 14 points off 12 Pioneer turnovers.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back this Saturday, January 22 at UW-Stout. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
