Five Pioneers recognized, Voelker and Gard earn top honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Senior Carter Voelker was named WIAC Co-Player of the Year and Coach Jeff Gard was named WIAC Coach of the Year. Junior Quentin Shields joined Voelker on the All-WIAC team. Sophomore Kyle Tuma and junior Justin Stovall received Honorable Mention. Stovall and Shields were each named to the All-Defensive team and senior Tanner Hudziak was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Stovall and Shields were each named to the All-Defensive team and senior Tanner Hudziak was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
This marks the second time Gard was voted WIAC Coach of the Year with his first coming in the 2017-18 season. Gard led the Pioneers to a first place finish in the WIAC regular season with a 12-2 WIAC record. The Pioneers had a conference best +13 point differential, ranking second in scoring (78 points/game) and second in points allowed (65 points/game).
The Pioneers led the conference in knocking down and defending the three-point shot. They make a WIAC-high 250 three-pointers (9.62/game) at a 39.6% clip as a team and held their opponents to just 30.4% from deep. As a team, they finished second in the conference in rebounding (37.6/game) and assists (12.88 per game).
Voelker was named WIAC Co-Player of the Year after being named All-WIAC his junior season and Honorable Mention as a sophomore. In conference play, Voelker ranked fourth in scoring (16.9 points/game), third in rebounding (7.1/game) and first in assists (4.0/game) while leading the WIAC with a 1.81 assist to turnover ratio.
Voelker's top performances:
-12/27 - LeTourneau - 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. He shot 38.1% (8-of-21) from the field.
-1/18 - UW-La Crosse - 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Voelker shot 43.8% (7-of-16) from the field.
-2/15 - UW-River Falls - 30 points, six rebounds and 1 assist. He shot 76.9% (10-of-13) from the field and 87.5% (7-of-8) from three-point range.
Shields earned his first All-WIAC selection after receiving Honorable Mention in 2018. Shields was also named to the All-Defensive team, with the top five defensive players. In conference play, Shields ranked 15th in scoring (12.1 points/game), fifth in assists (2.83/game) and sixth in free throw percentage (82.6%) and three point percentage (42.2%).
Shields's top performances:
-11/16 - Wash U - 29 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists. Shields shot 61.1% (11-of-18) from the field and 85.7% (6-of-7) from three-point range.
-1/29 - UW-Oshkosh - 28 points, 6 rebounds and five assists. He shot 43.8% (7-of-16) from the field and 92.9% (13-of-14) from the free throw line.
-2/27 - UW-Eau Claire - 31 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Shields shot 55.6% (10-of-18) from the field and 57.1% (4-of-7) from deep.
Stovall earned his first WIAC recognition and was named to the All-Defensive team and received Honorable Mention. Stovall led the WIAC in blocks by a wide margin with 1.86/game and the player ranked second had 1.14/game. In conference play, Stovall ranked 21st in scoring (11.1 points/game), fourth in rebounding (6.9/game), third in field goal percentage (56.1%) and seventh in free throw percentage (80.9%).
Stovall's top performances:
- 12/8 - Olivet - 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Stovall shot 50% (5-of-10) from the field and went 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
- 1/25 - UW-River Falls - 21 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. He shot 81.8% (9-of-11) from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
- 1/29 - UW-Oshkosh - 16 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and four blocks. Stovall shot 62.5% (5-of-8) from the field.
Tuma was named Honorable Mention for the first WIAC honor of his career. In conference play, Tuma scored 10.7 points a game and ranked seventh in rebounding (6.0/game), second in free throw percentage (86.1%) and top seven in three pointers made (1.93/game) and three-point percentage (40.3%).
Tuma's top performances:
- 1/25 - UW-River Falls - 13 points, 10 rebounds and one steal.
- 1/29 - UW-Oshkosh - 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
- 2/8 - UW-Stout - X points, eight rebounds, one steal and two blocks
Hudziak earns All-Sportsmanship for his efforts in his 2019-20 senior season.
-Hudziak appeared in eight games for the Pioneers
-He scored a season high five points against UW-River Falls on February 25.
-Hudziak's career high came in 2017-18 when he scored 10 points without missing a shot. He went 4-of-4 from the field including 2-of-2 from three-point range.
