Pioneers cruise past Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (18-3, 8-2 WIAC) ranked No. 12 on the D3hoops.com poll, defeated UW-Stout (5-15, 1-8 WIAC) 84-72 on Saturday afternoon. Junior Quentin Shields' 13 points surpassed 1,000 career points and he is the 35th Pioneer to reach the career achievement.

First half

• The Pioneers fell behind 0-7 early and went on a 19-4 run to take a 19-11 lead with 11:05 remaining.
• Junior Justin Stovall scored 10 points early in the Pioneers 19-11 run.
• The Pioneers led 46-41 going into halftime. 
• The Pioneers shot 50% (14-of-28) from the field and 25% (3-of-12) from three-point range and the Blue Devils shot 43.2% (16-of-37) from the field and 25% (3-of-12) on three-point attempts.
• The Pioneers shot 93.8% (15-of-16) from the free throw line and UW-Stout shot 75% (6-of-8) from the free throw line.

Second half

• The Blue Devils had a 10-4 run in the first six minutes of the half to take a 53-50 lead.
• The Pioneers took the lead at 55-53 with 13:31 remaining and led the remainder of the game.
• Sophomore Kyle Tuma had 11 of his 18 points in the second half.
• The Pioneers shot 50% (13-of-26) from the field and 44.4% (4-of-9) from three-point range while UW-Stout shot 38.5% (10-of-26) from the field and 15.4% (2-of-13) on three-pointers.
• The Pioneers shot 72.7% (8-of-11) from the free throw line while UW-Stout shot 50% (3-of-6).

• UW-Platteville improves to 18-3 overall, 8-2 WIAC.
• UW-Stout falls to 5-15 overall, 1-8 WIAC. 
• Stovall finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Stovall shot 80% (8-of-10) from the field. 
• Tuma had 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Tuma shot 55.6% (5-of-9) from the field, 50% (2-of-4) from three-point range and 85.7% (6-of-7) from the free throw line.
• Voelker finished with 15 points on just seven shots from the field. Voelker led the Pioneers with four assists and two steals.
• UW-Platteville shot 50% (27-of-54) from the field and 33.3% (7-of-21) from beyond the three-point arc. UW-Stout shot 39.2% (29-of-74) from the field and 20% (5-of-25) from three-point territory.
• The Pioneers shot 85.2% (23-of-27) from the free throw line and the Blue Devils shot 64.3% (9-of-14).
