Pioneers win on Garding Against Cancer Night
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (15-2, 5-1 WIAC) ranked No. 11 on the D3hoops.com poll, defeated UW-Whitewater (13-2, 3-2 WIAC) 77-56 on Wednesday night for Garding Against Cancer Night. $2,023 was raised which included a $500 donation from Southwest Health.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (15-2, 5-1 WIAC) ranked No. 11 on the D3hoops.com poll, defeated UW-Whitewater (6-11, 1-5 WIAC) 77-56 on Wednesday night for Garding Against Cancer Night. $2,023 was raised which included a $500 donation from Southwest Health.

First half
- The Pioneers took control early and built a 16-2 lead over the first 7:30 of the game.
- The Pioneers led 37-27 going into halftime.
- Senior Carter Voelker had 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in the half.
- Junior Quentin Shields had nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
- The Pioneers shot 50% (14-of-28) from the field and 41.7% (5-of-12) from three-point range and the Warhawks shot 28.9% (11-of-38) from the field and 31.3% (5-of-16) on three-point attempts.
- The Pioneers shot 100% (4-of-4) from the free throw line and UW-Whitewater did not attempt a free throw.
Second half
- The Pioneers opened the half with a 19-6 run to take a commanding 56-33 lead with 11:50 remaining.
- The Pioneers led by double digits the entire second half.
- The Pioneers shot 37% (10-of-27) from the field and 22.2% (2-of-9) from three-point range while UW-Whitewater shot 33.3% (11-of-33) from the field and 9.1% (1-of-11) on three-pointers.
- The Pioneers shot 90% (18-of-20) from the free throw line while UW-Whitewater shot 75% (6-of-8).
Notables
- UW-Platteville improved to 15-2 overall, 5-1 WIAC.
- UW-Whitewater fell to 6-11 overall, 1-5 WIAC.
- Voelker finished with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists and shot 53.8% (7-of-13) from the field.
- Shields had 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Sophomore Blake McCann scored 13 points off the bench and shot 44.4% (4-of-9) from the field and knocked down all four of his free throws.
- Sophomore Kyle Tuma had 10 points and led the Pioneers with two steals.
- UW-Platteville shot 43.6% (24-of-55) from the field and 33.3% (7-of-21) from beyond the three-point arc. UW-Whitewater shot 31% (22-of-71) from the field and 22.2% (6-of-27) from three-point territory.
- The Pioneers shot an impressive 91.7% (22-of-24) from the free throw line while the Warhawks shot 75% (6-of-8).
