Pioneers fall in overtime to #4 Titans
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team fell just short to #4 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (83-81) in overtime Wednesday night. With the loss the Pioneers drop to 13-9 and 6-5 in WIAC play while the Titans improve to 21-1, 11-0 WIAC.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team fell just short to #4 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (83-81) in overtime Wednesday night. With the loss the Pioneers drop to 13-9 and 6-5 in WIAC play while the Titans improve to 21-1, 11-0 WIAC.
The Pioneers and Titans' thrilling game included UW-Platteville trailing 73-70 with 30 seconds left in regulation before Carter Voelker tallied a steal and drained a 3-point basket which errupted Williams Fieldhouse and sent the two teams into overtime.
The Pioneers got off to solid first half shooting totals of 47.2% from the field and 50.0% from the three-point line. The Pioneers also outrebounded the Titans in the first half 15-14 and forced 9 Titan turnovers. Platteville held an early lead at halftime 45-42.
In the second half defense was the name of the game. Platteville held the Titans to 33.3% shooting from the field and 27.3% from the three-point line. The Pioneers also caused 9 turnovers in the Titans' first overtime game of the season.
Senior Robert Duax led all scorers and had a career high 35 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Junior Carter Voelker had a stellar all-around game with 17 points, a team-leading 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. at University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
