A fast start and strong finish by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville generated an 89-54 win over Illinois Tech Wednesday Night at Williams Fieldhouse. Just over twelve minutes into the game the Pioneers (5-1) were up 31-13, and never let the Scarlet Hawks (4-2) within more than 12.
UW-Platteville held a 49-37 advantage early in the second half before going on to outscore the Scarlet Hawks 40-17 over the final 17:45 of play. The 35 point win is the Pioneers' third 30+ point victory this season.
Clay Gerds had a career high 16 points and tied for a team high 5 rebounds with Trey Sigel. Matt Oestreich has 16 points as well, shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the field. Robert Duax and Carter Voelker each topped the Pioneers with five assists on the night.
Illinois Tech's Jake Digiorgio had a double-double with 10 rebounds and a game high 18 points.
The Pioneers' next play at home on Saturday, Dec. 2 following the women's matchup with Wartburg. The game is scheduled to tip-off inside Williams Fieldhouse at 5:00 p.m.
