STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The 19th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Pointers led from wire-to-wire to down the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team, 74-55, on Wednesday night at Quandt Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers were led by Boston Johnson with 17 points, while seniors Jim Stocki and Jake Manning each netted 10 points apiece.
Stevens Point led 12-10 in the first half and went on an 11-2 run to stretch its lead to 11 with 8:29 left in the first half. The Pioneers answered UWSP's run with seven unanswered points to cut their deficit to four. Another big run by the Pointers in the final five minutes of the half gave UWSP a 33-21 lead at the break.
The Pointers came out of the locker room making their first six shots to take a 22-point lead just under three minutes into the second half.
The Pioneers couldn't come up with enough consecutive stops as UWSP only allowed UW-Platteville to get within 15 points a few times in the last few minutes of the game.
The Pointers scored 13 points off of UW-Platteville's 10 turnovers, while the Pioneers were only able net five points off of nine UWSP miscues.
UW-Platteville returns to Bo Ryan Court on Saturday when the Pioneers host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
