PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Strong three-point shooting led the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team to a 80-51 rout of Coe College in the Pioneers' season opener on Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers shot 13-23 (56.5%) from beyond the arc, and held Coe to just 38 percent shooting from the field. UW-Platteville made 6-10 in the second half.
Jim Stocki led the Pioneers with a game-high 17 points and went 4-5 from three-point land. Cory Vaassen followed with 15 points and grabbed a game-high six rebounds.
Stocki opened the game with a three-pointer and the Pioneers never looked back. UW-Platteville led by as many as 18 points, 26-4, midway through the first half, and took a 40-22 lead into the half.
Coe had no answer for the Pioneers in the second half, as UW-Platteville pushed its lead to 30 points, 65-35 with 9:33 left to play. The Pioneer cruised to win 80-51.
UW-Platteville will wrap up the Gabe Miller Tip-off Classic on Sunday at 4 p.m. when the Pioneers faces off with Ripon.
