Transformational Purpose Statement

Coaching allows me to provide guidance and leadership to student-athletes by encouraging them to dream big and to assist them in developing a plan that will transform their life.

Ryan Munz is in his second season as the head coach at UW-Platteville and his eighteenth year overall as a member of the UW-Platteville staff after serving as the offensive coordinator since 2007.

In his first year as head coach, Munz guided the Pioneers to a 5-5 overall record and 4-3 mark in the WIAC. Three of the wins came against ranked opponents with victories against Bethel, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater highlighting the campaign. The 17-13 win over UW-Whitewater was the first for UW-Platteville since the 2004 season, when Munz played quarterback for the Pioneers.

2016 resulted in the Pioneers have the best scoring offense in the WIAC as they again averaged over 40 points a game. This year saw many great talents and more record breaking performances.  Tom Kelly set the single season touchdown passing record (37), Offensive Player of the Year, Dan Arnold, broke the single season receiving yards per game (1,176), and Wyatt Thompson’s single game rushing record (316) as the Pioneers heading back to the NCAA playoffs for the second time since 2013. Quinn Buschbacher was also hauled in 84 passes putting him third on the all time list. 2016 also saw Dan Arnold get NFL recognition as he is currently in the mix for the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2015, the Pioneer offense proved to be consistently one of the best offensive units in Division 3 football.  Averaging 38 points and 476 yards per game, the offensive unit continues to run efficiently. The offense was the best passing offense in the conference with an astonishing 81% in the redone by scoring 39 out of 48 attempts. With a young group returning for 2016, the future continues to look bright.

In 2014, Munz’s offense continued to light up the scoreboard averaging over 28 points a contest.  1st Team All-WIAC running back Andy Puccini lead the WIAC in rushing and broke the UW-Platteville individual rushing record gaining 1,252 yards under Munz guidance. Second team All-WIAC Quarterback Bryce Corrigan was one of the most efficient passers in the country, throwing for more than 2400 yards. Under Munz, the Pioneer receiving core continues to be one of the best in country with All-WIAC 1st selection Russell Martin, and 2nd Team All-WIAC Trevor Whitehead.

Munz's 2013 offense was one of the best in the country as they ranked in the top 30 in seven offensive categories. The 2013 squad surpassed nearly ever record set in 2012. The Pioneers set a program records in total offense (5,991 yards), first downs (308), points scored (455), passing yards (4,186 yards), completions (363) and touchdown passes (42). Under Munz's tutelage, the Pioneers had a pair of wide receivers with over 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in program history. Ryley Bailey tallied 1,047 yards while Trevor Whitehead recorded 1,017 yards receiving.

Munz guided the 2012 Pioneers to one of the best offensive seasons in school history and set school records in total offense (4,719 yards), points scored (410), first downs (244), passing percentage (71%) and touchdown passes (33). The Pioneers 344.7 passing yards per game ranked them sixth in the country and their 41 points per contest was good for eighth.

In 2011, Munz and the Pioneer offense recorded 196 first downs and 3,529 yards of total offense for its highest efforts

Since the 2007 season. Against UW-Stevens Point (Nov. 12), they racked up 29 first downs for the most since Oct. 13, 2007 against UW-La Crosse. The Pioneer offense rolled up 523 yards of total offense against UW-River Falls (Oct. 22), its highest output since a 533-yard effort against UW-La Crosse in 2007.

In addition to his role with the Pioneer football program, Munz teaches in the Health and Performance Department, and is also the Community Service Liason for the Athletic Department.

Munz was a four year quarterback for the Pioneers who earned the prestigious George Chryst Award in 2006. The Highland native earned his bachelor’s degree in business finance upon graduation and continued education to complete his master's degree in project management in 2008. In 2009, he traveled to Germany to play quarterback for the Fursty Razorbacks.

Munz, his wife Jessica, and their children JJ and Roxy reside in Platteville.
