Pioneers Receive First Round Bye, Will Play Wartburg in NCAA Playoffs
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – For the third time in program history and first since 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville football team earned an invitation to the NCAA DIII Playoffs. The Pioneers learned they would receive a first round bye and then hit the road on Saturday, November 30 for Wartburg College. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Walston-Hoover Stadium.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – For the third time in program history and first since 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville football team earned an invitation to the NCAA DIII Playoffs.
The Pioneers clinched their place in the pool of 40 teams one day prior to the bracket reveal as they improved to 9-1 on the season and 6-1 in the WIAC with a 46-38 victory at UW-Stout. The victory locked in UW-Platteville as the outright WIAC Champions, earning the league's automatic qualifier.
On Sunday evening, the Pioneers learned they would receive a First Round bye and then hit the road on Saturday, November 30 for Wartburg College. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Walston-Hoover Stadium.
Ranked No. 7 in the most recent D3football.com poll, UW-Platteville will face off against the No. 11 ranked Knights, making the game one of the highest and potentially the toughest matchups between ranked teams in the second round of play. The 2024 American Rivers Conference Champions are making their third-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Playoffs and are also 9-1 overall, finishing a perfect 8-0 against ARC teams.
The winner of the November 30th game will advance to face either Lake Forest College or the winner of the First Round game between Coe College and Bethel University.
Also representing the WIAC in the pool of 40 was UW-La Crosse who received an at-large bid and will host Northwestern (Minn.) in the First Round on November 23.
