Pioneers fall to No. 16 Titans in WIAC opener
OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville football team dropped the WIAC opener 46-7 at No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Titans took an early 8-0 lead in the first minute of play and never trailed in the game.

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville football team dropped the WIAC opener 46-7 at No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Titans took an early 8-0 lead in the first minute of play and never trailed in the game.
Fighting all day to break onto the scoreboard, the Pioneers' defense eventually secured the scoring play when junior Justin Blazek forced a fumble and recovery in the Titan endzone to start the fourth quarter.
UW-Oshkosh held a 387-278 edge in total offense with 278 in the air and 109 yards rushing. UW-Platteville passed for 217 yards and 61 on the ground.
The Titans were led by veteran quarterback Kobe Berhammer who completed 17 of 25 attempts for 262 yards and four touchdowns. Berghammer added 52 yards on the ground and another touchdown off nine carries.
Junior quarterback Braeden Katcher took over for Nathan Shackelford midway through the second quarter and finished the day completing 15 of 30 attempts for 170 yards and two interceptions.
Freshman Will Lawrence led the Pioneers with 36 yards on 10 carries. Junior Lucas Petersen registered a team high 63 yards off four catches.
Defensively, senior Sam Smith led the team with 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of nine and was in on one sack for a loss of four. Blazek tallied seven tackles, three for a loss of 19 yards and was in on 1.5 sacks for a loss of eight yards.
In all, the Pioneer defense totaled seven sacks for a loss of 39 yards and 12 tackles for a loss of 57 yards.
The Pioneers drop to 1-3 and 0-1 in the WIAC. The ranked Titans improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Up next, the Pioneers will take another road trip next Saturday when they travel to UW-Stevens Point on October 8 for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
