Pioneer Football announce award winners
Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville football held its annual end of season banquet on Jan. 23. The Pioneers handed out 14 individual awards, recognized those who received post-season honors, and thanked 19 seniors for their contributions to the Pioneer football program. The Pioneers finished the 2021 season with back-to-back wins and a 4-6 record.

The Pioneers handed out 14 individual awards, recognized those who received post-season honors, and thanked 19 seniors for their contributions to the Pioneer football program. The Pioneers finished the 2021 season with back-to-back wins and a 4-6 record.
Senior quarterback Colin Schuetz was once again voted by teammates the most valuable player. Schuetz completed 64.2% of his passes for 3,315 yards and 28 touchdowns. Junior wideout Austin Guy was voted by teammates as the offensive most valuable player. Guy had 61 receptions for 896 yards and nine touchdowns. Junior Ben Wilson was named most improved offensive player by the Pioneer coaching staff. Wilson had 59 receptions for 729 yards and four touchdowns.
Junior defensive back Samuel Tausz won two awards at the banquet. He was voted by teammates as defensive most valuable player and defensive most improved player by the coaching staff. Tausz recorded 41 tackles and led the Pioneers with three interceptions. Junior place kicker Andrew Schweigert was voted by teammates as special teams most valuable player. Schweigert had a career-long 50-yard field goal at Franklin College and hit 93% of his extra point attempts.
Senior wideout Jake Remsza took home the prestigious George Chryst Award, given annually to a senior who demonstrates leadership on and off the football field, as voted on by coaches.
Defensive lineman Tyler Bacon was voted newcomer of the year by his teammates. Bacon led the Pioneers with five sacks and 7.5 tackles for a loss.
Senior offensive lineman Carter Brehm and junior defensive lineman Jack Dietzen were voted best offensive and defensive lineman by the coaching staff.
Sophomore defensive back Danny Kast was defensive scout team player of the year, while freshman running back Tag Habedank was offensive scout team player of the year and freshman running back Dylan DiMaggio was named special teams scout player of the year. All three awards were voted on by the Pioneer coaching staff.
Senior linebacker Nate Yencer was named scholar-athlete by the coaching staff. The Pioneers are scheduled to open the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 at East Texas Baptist.
