Pioneers run past Falcons 52-27 on Homecoming

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – UW-Platteville ran past the UW-River Falls Falcons 52-27 on Homecoming Saturday in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers (4-1 overall, 2-0 WIAC) racked up 536 yards offense with 278 net rushing over the UW-River Falls Falcons (1-4 overall, 0-2 WIAC). The Pioneers broke away in the third quarter outscoring the Falcons 28-6 for the remainder of the game.
Senior Sean Studer had 30 carries and five touchdowns for a total of 217 yards. Studer's five rushing touchdowns ties the school record set by Lee Vlasak against UW-Eau Claire in 2010 and 217 yards puts Studer in at 5th in school history for yards rushing in a single game. Studer's five rushing touchdowns in Saturday's game also puts him tied at second in WIAC history.
Senior receiver Mark Johnson totaled seven receptions for 179 yards with an 80 yard reception for a Pioneer touchdown in the third quarter.
Sophomore quarterback Colin Schuetz finished 15 for 20 with 278 yards. Schuetz rushed into the end zone for the Pioneers second touchdown of the day followed by an 80 yard long pass to Johnson and the Pioneer touchdown.
On defense, sophomore Eric Siedenburg led the charge banking 12 solo tackles, two assists, and an interception. Josh Wiseman finished with nine tackles, Tyler Reinhardt racked up eight, and Clayton Becker tallied seven tackles and one force fumble. Junior Mike Brown also recorded a solid three broken up passes in Saturday's matchup.
The Pioneers who lead the nation in blocked punts and blocked kicks added another on Homecoming day with Jackson McMahan blocking UW-River Fall's Jacob Lytle on the Falcon's second extra point attempt.
The Falcons totaled 501 yards offense with 405 yards in the air. UW-River Falls' Ben Beckman completed 28 of 41 attempts for 405 yards and two interceptions. The Falcon's Trenton Monson led with 166 yards receiving while Ted Androli led with 9 tackles for the Falcons.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to nationally ranked conference rival UW Oshkosh with kick off scheduled for 2 p.m.
