Pioneers open WIAC play on the road at UW-Stevens Point
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville opens 2018 WIAC play on the road at UW-Stevens Point at Goerke Park.
The game: The University of Wisconsin-Platteville opens 2018 WIAC play Saturday, Sept. 29 on the road at UW-Stevens Point at Goerke Park. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
The records: UW-Platteville is 2-1 overall, while UW-Stevens Point is 1-2.
The coaches: Mike Emendorfer is UW-Platteville's all-time winningest coach, compiling a 99-96 record in his 20th season. He has taken the Pioneers to their only two NCAA III playoff berths in school history, in 2013 and 2016. Emendorfer is the WIAC's active leader in victories. UWSP's Greg Breitbach enters his fourth game as the head coach of the Pointers after being named to the position in July. Breitbach came to UWSP after serving as head coach at Millersville University (DII) and offensive coordinator at the University of North Dakota.
The Pioneers: UW-Platteville comes off a 49-12 victory over Lakeland University last weekend at the home opener in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Quarterback Colin Schuetz leads passing yards with 299.7 per game and is 70-127 in passing completions and attempts which ranks highest in the WIAC. Receiver Donald Allender is averaging 108.3 yards per game.
On defense, senior Ben Mogilevsky leads with 27 tackles along with a forced fumble and interception. The Pioneers also currently sit second in the nation with five blocked kicks in the first three games.
The Pointers: UW-Stevens Point will enter Saturday's game following a bye last weekend. The Pointers fell in week one to John Carroll 21-45 then in week two to Wabash 13-16 before securing their first victory of the year with a 51-28 win over Dakota State University.
Junior quarterback, Matt Urmanski, leads the Pointers and is averaging 249.7 passing yards per game. Senior Steve Herra leads with 15 receptions and is averaging 69.7 yards per game. On defense, senior Ryan Strick leads with 19 solo tackles and is second in the WIAC with 11.7 tackles per game.

The Next Game: UW-Platteville returns home to play UW-River Falls on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. on homecoming. The game will also be the annual Celebrate Agriculture game sponsored by Compeer Financial.
