LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (1-2) scored four runs in the top of the ninth but came up short in a 7-4 loss to Wabash (3-1) on Sunday afternoon from Loeb Stadium in Lafayette, Indiana.
The Little Giants scored three in the bottom half of the first inning on a one-out RBI single, a fielder's choice RBI groundout, and a two-out RBI double. Wabash continued to add to the lead with single runs in the third, fifth, sixth, and innings to hold the seven-run advantage heading into the final frame.
UW-Platteville loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, and freshman Trinity Beland scored the first run of the innings on a wild pitch. An error brought senior Xavier Lara across the plate for the second run, and senior Slate Higa grounded out to bring in sophomore Evan Bohr. Sophomore Caleb Parker ripped a two-out single to center to score the fourth run of the inning, but the comeback came up short with a game-ending strikeout with the tying run at the plate.
The Pioneers finished with eight hits in the contest, with Parker recording the only multi-hit game for the team. Wabash totaled 12 hits, including four extra-base hits, while adding eight walks. William McKinzie had a three-hit day for the Little Giants.

The Pioneers will travel to MSOE next weekend for three games. On Saturday, UW-Platteville will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with the final game of the weekend taking place at noon on Sunday.
