Pioneers Split Road Doubleheader With Blugolds
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (13-20, 8-12 WIAC) split a road doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon with UW-Eau Claire (11-25, 3-17 WIAC) from Carson Park in Eau Claire. The Pioneers took game one by a score of 16-6 before falling 6-4 in game two.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (13-20, 8-12 WIAC) split a road doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon with UW-Eau Claire (11-25, 3-17 WIAC) from Carson Park in Eau Claire. The Pioneers took game one by a score of 16-6 before falling 6-4 in game two.
Game One
With the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, senior Mitchell Pomeroy made it 2-0 in favor of the Pioneers with a two-run single through the right side. Junior Chris Tsouras brought home another run on a groundout, and Pomeroy scored on a wild pitch with two outs to make 4-0 UW-Platteville.
The Blugolds cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run, but the Pioneers added three more in the third inning on a two-run double by junior Brady Katterhagen and an RBI single by senior Hunter Hopkins. UW-Eau Claire hit two more home runs in the bottom half of the inning to make 7-5, but Tsouras singled home two runs in the fourth inning to increase the lead back to four.
Tsouras drove in another run in the sixth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and another run scored in the inning on a fielder's choice groundout by Katterhagen. Juniors Slate Higa and Grant Bossert homered in the next two innings to make it 14-5 and after the Blugolds scored once in the eighth, sophomore Mason Molitor and Tsouras drove home two more runs in the ninth as the Pioneers won 16-6.
The Pioneers finished with 19 hits in the win, with five players recording multiple. Junior Justin Fago went 5-for-6 with five runs scored, while Pomeroy recorded four hits with two RBI and two runs scored.
On the mound, junior Josh Belgrave picked up his first win of the year by throwing five innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits. He struck out four and walked three.
Game Two
Sophomore Caleb Parker scored on an RBI groundout by Pomeroy in the first inning to help the Pioneers get out to an early lead in game two. UW-Platteville added a couple more runs in the coming innings, with Fago, Tsouras, and Higa driving in runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, respectively.
The Blugolds rallied and scored six unanswered runs across the final four innings to eventually win by a score of 6-4. UW-Eau Claire scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to cut the deficit down to one before a three-run eighth inning put them in front.
Parker finished with a team-high three hits and the Pioneers finished with 10 as a team. After finishing with five hits in game one, Fago added two more in game two to bring his total for the day to seven.
Freshman Isaac Then threw the first seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out six. Junior Conner Paulson was dealt the loss after giving up three runs in the eighth inning.

The Pioneers return home to wrap up the regular season with a four-game series against UW-Oshkosh on Friday and Saturday. Friday's games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
