Pioneers Rally For 10-5 Win At Wartburg
WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (12-19) fell behind early but rallied with nine unanswered runs to beat Wartburg (20-15) by a score of 10-5 on Tuesday evening from Harms Stadium Hertel in Waverly, Iowa.

The Pioneers got one run in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk, but the Knights answered with three runs in the first and two more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. UW-Platteville chipped away at the deficit with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore Mason Molitor.
Junior Chris Tsouras tied the game at five in the fifth inning with a solo home run, and the Pioneers took the lead soon after on an error and an RBI single by sophomore Caleb Parker. In the next inning, freshman Connor Gresens made it 8-5 in favor of UW-Platteville with an RBI groundout.
Following a lengthy weather delay, the Pioneers scored two more runs in the top of eighth inning to push the lead up to five. Gresens drew a bases loaded walk to score one run and junior Slate Higa brought home the other run with a single up the middle.
Freshman Aidan Kelsick got the start for UW-Platteville and allowed five runs (four earned) across two innings of work. Senior Jake Wegner entered in relief and pitched the final seven innings, giving up just one hit and striking out 14 to earn the win.
The Pioneers totaled 10 hits and nine walks in the contest, with Tsouras and Molitor each reaching base four times. Parker, senior Mitchell Pomeroy, and Molitor each had two hits in the game.
UW-Platteville heads to UW-Eau Claire to wrap up the regular season series. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two to follow.
