Pioneers Wrap Up Weekend With Losses To Pointers
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (8-17, 4-10 WIAC) dropped the final two games of the weekend series to UW-Stevens Point (19-9, 11-5 WIAC) on Sunday afternoon by scores of 13-3 and 15-8 from Zimmerman Field in Stevens Point.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (8-17, 4-10 WIAC) dropped the final two games of the weekend series to UW-Stevens Point (19-9, 11-5 WIAC) on Sunday afternoon by scores of 13-3 and 15-8 from Zimmerman Field in Stevens Point.
Game One
The Pioneers got one on the board in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by senior Wyatt Molitor, but UW-Stevens Point answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. In the top of the second frame, senior Hunter Hopkins evened the game at two apiece with a run-scoring single through the left side.
The Pointers' offense got going in the next couple innings, scoring 11 runs across the next three innings to grab a 13-2 advantage. UW-Platteville was able to get one more run in the game on an RBI single by junior Brady Katterhagen in the top of the sixth, but the game ended 13-3 after seven innings.
UW-Platteville totaled nine hits in the contest, with eight different players recording at least one and Wyatt Molitor pacing the team with two. Juniors Grant Bossert and Slate Higa each stole a base in the game.
On the mound, senior Mitchell Pomeroy fell to 3-1 on the season after allowing eight runs (six earned) across four innings of work.
Game Two
The Pioneers offense started strong in game two, scoring six runs in the top half of the first inning. Wyatt Molitor opened the scoring with a two-run home run, and sophomore Mason Molitor delivered an RBI double to make it 3-0. Junior Chris Tsouras then brought home two with a two-run homer and the final run of the frame scored on a single by Higa.
UW-Stevens Point rallied from the early deficit and used an eight-run second inning to pull ahead 9-6. The advantage continued to grow over the next couple innings until senior Jake Wegner brought home a run for the Pioneers in the seventh to make it 13-7. The Pointers added a couple more runs in the next two innings and sophomore Caleb Parker capped the scoring for the game with a ninth inning single that made it 15-8.
UW-Platteville finished with 11 hits in the game, with junior Justin Fago, Hopkins, and Tsouras leading the way with two hits apiece. The Pioneers also drew six walks in the game and reached base via hit-by-pitch three times.
Sophomore Jordan Stanton was handed the loss after giving up eight runs (seven earned) in the first 1.1 innings. Junior Josh Belgrave was solid in relief, allowing just one run across three innings and striking out two.
