Pioneers Swept By Warhawks Wednesday
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (7-13, 4-6 WIAC) dropped a pair of WIAC games against seventh-ranked UW-Whitewater (19-4, 9-1 WIAC) on Wednesday afternoon from Kendall Murray Field. The Pioneers fell by scores of 14-2 and 14-1 in a pair of seven-inning contests.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (7-13, 4-6 WIAC) dropped a pair of WIAC games against seventh-ranked UW-Whitewater (19-4, 9-1 WIAC) on Wednesday afternoon from Kendall Murray Field. The Pioneers fell by scores of 14-2 and 14-1 in a pair of seven-inning contests.
Game One
After a couple of scoreless innings to start the game, the Warhawks broke through with a five-run third inning to jump in front. UW-Whitewater continued to build upon that lead in the coming innings, including one in the fourth and two in the sixth. The Warhawks biggest inning of the game came in the seventh as they scored six runs on three hits with a couple of home runs to make the score 14-0.
The Pioneers put two on the board in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by sophomore Mason Molitor and an RBI groundout by sophomore Blake Bussan.
UW-Platteville totaled six hits, with senior Jake Wegner and Mason Molitor leading the team with two hits apiece.
On the mound, senior Brandon Molldrem was charged with the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) across 3.2 innings.
Game Two
The Warhawks took the opening pitch deep to start game two, but the Pioneers answered with one run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by junior Grant Bossert. UW-Whitewater's offense heated up with eight runs in the third and four more in the fourth to take a 13-1 lead after four innings. The Warhawks scored one more in the fifth and held the Pioneers scoreless for the final three frames to win 14-1 in seven innings.
The Pioneers put together four total hits, with three of those coming from Bossert. Bossert recorded the lone extra base hit for the Pioneers with a double and stole a pair of bases.
Sophomore Jordan Stanton fell to 1-4 on the year after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six runs. Senior Jake Schneider was the Pioneers most efficient pitcher in the game, as he tossed the final 3.1 innings and allowed just one run while striking out five.
