Pioneers Drop Two Games To UW-La Crosse Saturday
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (4-10, 1-3 WIAC) wrapped the four-game series against UW-La Crosse (11-4, 3-1 WIAC) on Saturday afternoon from Copeland Park in La Crosse. The Pioneers fell by scores on 12-4 and 14-0 in the doubleheader.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (4-10, 1-3 WIAC) wrapped the four-game series against UW-La Crosse (11-4, 3-1 WIAC) on Saturday afternoon from Copeland Park in La Crosse. The Pioneers fell by scores on 12-4 and 14-0 in the doubleheader.
Game One
UW-La Crosse got off to a fast start at the plate, scoring four runs on five hits, including a two-run home run, in the first inning. The Eagles added another run in the second before the Pioneers got on the board in the third inning after junior Slate Higa stole third and scored on an error.
UW-Platteville cut the deficit down to 6-3 in the fifth inning after sophomore Charlie Breen and senior Wyatt Molitor both connected on home runs. But the Eagles would score six more runs over the next couple frames to pull ahead 12-3. Junior Justin Fago drove in one more for the Pioneers in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to right field to make the final score 12-4.
The Pioneers finished with nine hits in the contest, with Fago pacing the team with a 3-for-5 performance. Higa tallied the lone extra-base hit with his double in the third inning.
On the mound, junior Brady Hoppert was dealt the loss after giving up five runs across 1.2 innings. Junior Conner Paulson entered in relief and held UW-La Crosse to one run over the next 3.1 innings while striking out three.
Game Two
The game was scoreless for the first two and half innings until the Eagles moved in front with a five-run innings. UW-La Crosse added four more in the fourth and scored multiple runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the seven-inning victory at 14-0.
UW-Platteville was held to three hits in the second game, with senior Jake Wegner recording two and sophomore Mason Molitor finishing with one.
Sophomore Jordan Stanton dropped to 0-3 on the year after giving up six runs across 3.1 innings. He struck out five batters in the outing. Senior Jake Schneider and sophomore William Hough combined to throw the final 2.2 innings.

The Pioneers will play at Cornell College on Thursday in a single game at 6 p.m. UW-Platteville then takes on UW-Stout on Saturday and Sunday in the team's home opener with games set for noon and 3 p.m. both days.
