Pioneers Pick Up Walk Off To Wrap Up Florida Trip
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (3-7) wrapped up the trip to Pensacola on Friday by splitting contests against Huntingdon (8-6) and Lyon (3-10). The Pioneers win came in walk off fashion against the Scots in the second game of the day.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (3-7) wrapped up the trip to Pensacola on Friday by splitting contests against Huntingdon (8-6) and Lyon (3-10). The Pioneers win came in walk off fashion against the Scots in the second game of the day.
Game One
The Hawks opened the scoring with a two-out double to centerfield, but the Pioneers responded with two runs in the top half of the fourth to go in front 2-1. Sophomore Caleb Parker drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, and senior Wyatt Molitor delivered a two-out single to bring home sophomore Charlie Breen.
Huntingdon moved back in front with runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings, but Parker evened the game at three in the top of the eighth on his second sacrifice fly of the game. The Hawks answered with two runs in the bottom of that inning and then shut down the Pioneers in order in the ninth to secure the win.
The Pioneers finished with nine hits, with junior Brady Katterhagen pacing the team with a 3-for-4 performance. Breen also tallied a pair of hits while scoring two of the team's three runs.
Senior Mitchell Pomeroy got the start on the hill, allowing two runs across 4.1 innings. Sophomore William Hough was handed the loss in the game after giving up the final two runs.
Game Two
Lyon got on the board in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly, and the game would sit at 1-0 until the Scots added a second run in the eighth on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the eighth, junior Slate Higa led off with a double and later came in to score on a single by Mason Molitor. With two outs, junior Grant Bossert came through with a triple to left field that scored Molitor to tie the game at two.
The Pioneers walked it off in the bottom of the ninth after senior Jake Wegner's leadoff double crossed the plate on a Scots error.
UW-Platteville totaled seven hits in the contest, with Higa leading the way with two. Three of the Pioneers seven hits went for extra bases.
Junior Brady Hoppert pitched seven strong innings, as he allowed just one unearned run while striking out eight. Junior Conner Paulson picked up the win after tossing the final two frames.
Up Next
The Pioneers take on Carroll (Wis.) on the road next Saturday, March 23 in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
