Platteville, Wis. – Isaac Stanton and Zach McCoy have been named as assistant coaches for the UW-Platteville baseball program, head coach Chad Harris announced.
Stanton comes to UW-Platteville from Southwestern High School where he served as head coach from 2019-2023 and assistant coach from 2016-2019. In 2021, Stanton led the Wildcats to regional and sectional titles, and guided the team to the Wisconsin State Tournament for the first time in 10 years. Prior to his time at Southwestern, Stanton coached travel baseball with EMB Gold (Gold Standard Athletics/Eric Munson Baseball). During his time with EMB, he guided five consecutive teams to Iowa Majors Championships, winning in 2014, 2015, and 2017.
With the Pioneers, Stanton will serve as the hitting coach and work with the catchers as well focusing on recruiting in the local tri-state area. He is a graduate of Potosi High School and Madison Area Technical College.
"Coach Stanton is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff," Harris said. "He brings a wealth of experience, including as a successful head coach, along with strong connections to the local area for recruiting. I am extremely excited to be bringing Coach Stanton over to the Pioneer baseball program. I appreciate his trust in our goals and vision along with his willingness to step into this role at the college level."
McCoy, who obtained his master's degree in Sports Administration from UW-Platteville in 2023 and played his final two years of baseball for the Pioneers, will be joining the coaching staff as recruiting coordinator and infield coach. Originally from Modesto, California, the 2017 graduate of Gregori High School (CA) obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Dubuque in 2021 while also playing his first four years of college baseball. While at Dubuque, McCoy was a member of the 2018 Spartans team which won the Iowa Conference championship, the Iowa Conference tournament, and won two games in the program's only appearance in the NCAA National Tournament.
McCoy has served as an assistant baseball coach at Gregori High School for the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons and also for JP Sports in the Quad Cities area where he served as a site and tournament director, handled scouting, and managed umpires. After graduating from Dubuque, McCoy worked as a Senior Sales Assistant for Ticket Operations at the University of Tennessee covering the sports of women's volleyball, football, and men's and women's basketball.
In addition to his coaching duties for the Pioneer baseball program, McCoy will also be an instructor in the Health and Human Performance department at UW-Platteville.
"I've known Zach since he was a freshman in college, and I've been fortunate enough to watch him grow and mature into a great young man dating back to our days together at UD," said Harris. "He served as a team leader in his final season here at Platteville and I am very comfortable knowing what I can expect from Zach. Most importantly, I know I can trust him as we all work together to continue to build the Pioneer baseball program. He knows the vision we have and what it takes to win in this great conference."
