Fago, Mullins Collect WIAC Postseason Awards
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Sophomore Justin Fago of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team was named to the 2023 All-WIAC Team the conference announced on Wednesday. Senior Grant Mullins was tabbed Honorable Mention while sophomore Johnathon Hamann earned a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Sophomore Justin Fago of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team was named to the 2023 All-WIAC Team the conference announced on Wednesday. Senior Grant Mullins was tabbed Honorable Mention while sophomore Johnathon Hamann earned a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Fago led the Pioneers in several offensive categories and was seventh in the WIAC with a .379 batting average. The sophomore ranked inside the top 15 in the conference in on-base percentage (.439), slugging percentage (.576), OPS (1.015), hits (50), and doubles (11). The Mesa, Arizona native paced UW-Platteville with 26 RBI and 25 runs scored while connecting on five home runs across his 34 games played. Fago recorded 16 multi-hit games and was impressive in the Pioneers four-game series against UW-Stevens Point, going 10-for-16 with four doubles, a home run, and five runs scored.
Mullins finished second on the team with a .308 batting average and was 10th in the WIAC with a .577 slugging percentage across 27 games. Fifteen of his 32 hits went for extra bases, with his five home runs matching Fago for second on the team. Mullins finished the year with 21 runs scored, 18 RBI, and a team-high six stolen bases. Against UW-Eau Claire on April 14, the senior went 2-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored.
Hamann played in two games on the year and provided the Pioneers with energy off the bench. The sophomore was also recently awarded with the Pioneer Difference Maker award.
