Pioneers Drop Two Against UW-Whitewater Friday
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (10-23, 7-15 WIAC) dropped a pair of games Friday afternoon in a doubleheader on the road against UW-Whitewater (26-11, 13-9 WIAC). The Warhawks won by scores of 17-3 and 20-6 in two seven inning contests.

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (10-23, 7-15 WIAC) dropped a pair of games Friday afternoon in a doubleheader on the road against UW-Whitewater (26-11, 13-9 WIAC). The Warhawks won by scores of 17-3 and 20-6 in two seven inning contests.
Junior Hunter Hopkins led off game one with a home run for the Pioneers, but the Warhawks answered with four runs of their own in the first and seven more in the second to take a 11-1 lead. In the top half of the third, sophomore Justin Fago connected on UW-Platteville's second home run, but UW-Whitewater tacked on two runs in each of the third, fifth, and sixth innings to increase the lead to 17-2. Senior Wyatt Molitor drove in one for the Pioneers in the seventh to make the final score of game one 17-3.
UW-Platteville finished with six hits and drew one walk in the game. Sophomore Brady Hoppert was charged with the loss after he gave up nine runs on eight hits. Senior Parker Heidorf threw the final five innings, allowing eight runs.
After the Warhawks scored in the bottom of the first in game two, the Pioneers scored three in the second to take an early lead. Senior Zach McCoy drove in one with a sacrifice fly and junior Jake Wegner launched a home run to left that plated two. UW-Whitewater put together a couple of big innings in response, scoring five in the second and 10 in the fourth and later led 20-3 after six innings. UW-Platteville pushed three across in the top of the seventh, including two on a double by Fago, but the Warhawks won 20-6 in seven frames.
The Pioneers will wrap up the 2023 season tomorrow afternoon with the final two games of the series against UW-Whitewater. The games are scheduled for noon and 3 p.m.
