Pioneers Handed Loss Against Loras Tuesday
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (10-21) fell 9-2 in a non-conference game against Loras (22-12) on Tuesday evening at Petrakis Park in Dubuque.

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (10-21) fell 9-2 in a non-conference game against Loras (22-12) on Tuesday evening at Petrakis Park in Dubuque.
After the Duhawks opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, senior Dillon Sunnquist tied the game at one with an RBI single that drove in senior Mitchell McLaughlin in the third. But Loras answered with six runs over the next three innings, including a pair of home runs, to take a 7-1 lead after five. The Pioneers got one back in the top half of the sixth as freshman Ian Merry pinch-hit and knocked in freshman Charlie Breen, who had reached on an error to begin the inning. The Duhawks pushed two more across in the eighth to secure a 9-2 victory.
UW-Platteville tallied seven hits in the game, with junior Hunter Hopkins pacing the team with two. McLaughlin recorded the lone extra-base hit for the Pioneers in the game with his third inning double, and he reached two base two more times via walks.
Freshman Jordan Stanton was dealt his first loss of the season after giving up a pair of runs across three innings of work.
The Pioneers will have this weekend off and will return to action with a four-game series on the rtoad against UW-Whitewater on Friday, May 5. The doubleheader begins at 1 P.M.
