Pioneers Fall to Grinnell on Monday
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (3-5) failed to get much going offensively in a 5-0 loss to Grinnell (3-5) on Monday in Pensacola.
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (3-5) failed to get much going offensively in a 5-0 loss to Grinnell (3-5) on Monday in Pensacola.
Offense was tough to come by for much of the game, as the teams combined for just seven hits through the first seven innings. Senior Sam Hernandez pitched five strong innings for the Pioneers, as he scattered one hit and five walks while striking out four. Freshman William Hough tossed two solid innings in relief of Hernandez, allowing two baserunners while striking out two.
Grinnell got on the board in the eighth inning on a two-out double before adding four more in the top half of the ninth on four hits to lead 5-0. UW-Platteville bounced out three times in the bottom of the to finish the game.
Senior Mitchell McLaughlin recorded all three of the Pioneers hits in the game to finish the day 3-for-3. Junior Jake Schneider was charged with the loss on the mound after allowing five runs across the final two innings of the game.
The Pioneers wrap up competition in Florida tomorrow night against Hendrix. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
