PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, ranked #13 in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, came to southwestern Wisconsin and took both ends of a doubleheader from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Wednesday afternoon by the final scores of 5-1 and 7-0. The Warhawk pitching staff quieted the Platteville bats allowing just 9 hits combined between the two contests. The conference losses drop UWP's record to 8-10 this spring, 4-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Whitewater saw its record improve to 15-2 overall, 8-1 in the WIAC. The two teams will face off again on Saturday, April 17th in Whitewater for another doubleheader. First pitches are set for 12p and 3p.

Platteville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a 2-out RBI double from Garrett Gillund (Jr./Wonder Lake, Ill.). The score would stay that way until the top of the 5th. The Warhawks broke through against starter Michael Greco (Jr./Bolingbrook, Ill.) with three doubles that plated two runs. Before the fifth, Greco had been cruising, facing the minimum amount of batters through four. Greco pitched well in the loss giving up just the two runs in five innings, striking out two and walking none.
Grant Mullins (Fr./Greenville, Wis.) paced the offense smacking three of the Pioneers' five hits. Mullins raised his batting average in conference games to .324.

Warhawk starter Matt O'Sullivan got seven runs of support from his offense but only needed one as he was dominant on the mound in game two. The returning WIAC 1st Team All-Conference lefthander tossed eight shutout innings, scattered three hits, struck out 14 batters and walked none. Pioneer CF Jonny Kelso (Jr./Villa Park, Ill.) collected two hits in four plate appearances to continue his hot hitting.
Platteville'sGrant Merk (Fr.Council Bluffs, Iowa) made his Pioneer debut on the mound in relief of starterSam Arnold (Fr./Des Plaines, Ill.). Merk entered the game in the fifth and allowed two runs on a walk and a couple singles. However after that the 5'10 lefthander settled in, closing out the game with four straight innings of scoreless relief.
