Pioneers shutout Cornell on the road
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team defeated Cornell 2-0 at Ash Park on Thursday night.

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team defeated Cornell 2-0 at Ash Park on Thursday night.
The Pioneers improved to 8-9 overall (3-1 WIAC) while the Rams fall to 9-9 on the season.
Five Pioneer pitchers combined for the shutout on Thursday night. Sophomore Michael Greco started and pitched the first two innings but senior Keegan Madigan earned the win after pitching three innings. Freshmen Rich Jesse Jr. and Jared Carney continued the shutout until sophomore Samuel Peters entered and earned the save.
Freshman Jackson Little began the game with a leadoff double down the rightfield line and was driven in by senior Brennan Kearney to get the Pioneers on the board early. The other run was scored in the third inning when sophomore Ross Krist reached base on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third base and scored on a throwing error.
The Pioneers travel to face University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a four game series this weekend. Games are Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7 at noon and 3 p.m.
