Pioneers name athletes of the week, Crary earns WIAC honors

Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week – Caitlyn Ifft, Fr., (Fairbury, IL/Prairie Central) – Ifft finished in 46th place at the WIAC Championship Saturday. The freshman was the Pioneers’ third finisher with a time of 23:49, which was a 53-second personal best. |

Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week – Matt Wubben, Sr., (Greendale, WI/Greendale) – Wubben finished in 18th place to earn All-Conference honors at the WIAC Championships on Oct. 29. The senior’s time of 25:24 was a two minute and one second personal best, which now puts him on the Pioneers’ all-time best list. |

Football Defensive Athlete of the Week – Chandler Crary, Jr. (St. Charles, IL/Burlington Central) Linebacker – Crary had a career day in the Pioneers’ victory over UW-Stout on Oct. 29. The junior linebacker tallied 14 tackles, one sack, three tackles for a loss, forced one fumble, and broke up one pass in the 55-27 win. Crary’s efforts helped the Pioneers improve to 6-2 on the year. |

Football Offensive Athlete of the Week – Tom Kelly, Sr. (Chicago, IL/Guerin Prep) Quarterback – Kelly finished 24-for-34 for 374 yards in the Pioneers’ 55-27 defeat of UW-Stout on Oct. 29. The senior threw six touchdown passes, which ranks second in UW-Platteville’s record book for most touchdowns in a game. Kelly found four different receivers for scores, and his efforts helped the Pioneers improve to 6-2 on the year. |

Football Special Team Athlete of the Week – Antonio Ramos, Fr. (Hartland, WI/Arrowhead) Safety – Ramos recorded three tackles alone on kickoff in the Pioneers’ 55-27 victory over UW-Stout on Oct. 29. The freshman safety was a key part in field position throughout the course of the game. |

Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week – Will Seehawer, Fr. (Howard, WI/Bay Port) Goal Keeper – Seehawer played the second half of the Pioneers’ game against Edgewood on Oct. 26. The freshman made two incredible stops to preserve the shutout as the Pioneers went on to win 5-0, and finished their season at 12-6.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week – Wyatt Gilson, Jr. (Oconomowoc, WI/Arrowhead) Forward – Gilson scored two goals in the Pioneers’ 5-0 win over Edgewood on Oct. 26. The junior forward was a constant threat to the Crusaders defensive line all night.
