Pioneers name athletes of the week

Football Defensive Athlete of the Week – Marty McGrail, (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield North) Linebacker McGrail was all over the field as the Pioneers defeated UW-River Falls 45-14 on Oct. 15 in their annual Homecoming game.  The junior linebacker totaled 16 tackles, including one sack.

Football Offensive Athlete of the Week – Dan Arnold, Sr. (Fargo, ND/Shanley) Wide Receiver – Arnold hauled in seven grabs for 160 yards and two touchdowns in the Pioneers Homecoming win against UW-River Falls.  The senior was a big play target all afternoon averaging 22.7 yards per catch in the 45-14 win.  

Football Special Team Athlete of the Week – Sam Herkert, Sr. (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh North) Kicker – Herkert was perfect on the day in the Pioneers 45-15 Homecoming victory over UW-River Falls.  The freshman kicker was six-for-six on extra points, and drilled a 37-yard field goal, notching nine points on the day.

Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week – Lindsey Decker, Sr. (Galena, IL) Defensive Specialist – Decker registered 93 digs in twenty sets played over five matches for the week of Oct. 10 – 16.  The senior averaged 4.65 digs per set in helping the Pioneers to a 3-2 record for the week.  This included a 33 dig performance in a four set win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Oct. 15.  For the week, Decker only committed three receive errors in 79 attempts.  

Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week – Amber Williams, Sr. (Milwaukee, WI/Hamilton) Outside Hitter – Williams registered 63 kills to go along with three block asssists and 22 digs in the twenty sets played over five matches for the week of Oct. 10 – 16.  The senior recorded a career high 17 kills in a five set victory over Lakeland College on Oct. 12 to go along with 15 kills and a .361 hitting percentage against Central College on Oct. 14.  Williams averaged 3.15 kills per set over five matches.
