Baseball Set to Play Four Games this Week
The Pioneers baseball team is slated to play four games this week, starting with a Monday afternoon contest at Dubuque with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. UW-Platteville then travels to face Wisconsin Lutheran on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before returning home for a Sunday doubleheader against Edgewood starting at noon.
Dubuque took game two in a doubleheader with Aurora over the weekend to snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 4-5 overall. Tyson Dent leads the team with a .375 batting average, while Aidan Elfering paces the Spartans with two home runs and 11 RBI.
Wisconsin Lutheran enters the week 3-7 after recent losses to Dean and Otterbein in Florida this past week. Colt Ratliff (.441 batting average) and Ian Rintelman (.429 and 19 RBI) lead the Warriors on the offensive side.
Edgewood is 2-7 on the year and lost 9-7 to top-ranked UW-Whitewater this past week. The Eagles are led offensively by Jacob Carney and Hayden Hellenbrand (10 RBI each), but have struggled on the mound with a team ERA of 9.44.
Softball Begins Spring Break Trip Sunday
After a couple week off, the Pioneers softball team heads to Clermont, Florida, to play 10 games across spring break. The first two games of the trip take place on Sunday, March 23, with UW-Platteville facing Westminster (Mo.) at 9:15 a.m. and Manchester at 11:30 a.m.
Westminster (Mo.) has started the season 3-7 and will play four games this week in Florida before facing the Pioneers on Sunday. The Blue Jays are led offensively by Paige Cruzan (.409 batting average and eight run scored) and Raigan McKee (one home run and team-high .688 slugging percentage).
Manchester is 1-1 on the year and will play games against Adrian, UW-River Falls, and Union this week before Sunday's game against UW-Platteville. Lexi Goodman went is a perfect 4-for-4 for the Spartans across the first two games, while Kaitlyn Carr earned the team's lone win on the season in the circle.
