Pioneers Begin Postseason Play This Week

Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season
With the WIAC tournament on the horizon, the Pioneers volleyball team will host a pair of matches this week to conclude the regular season. UW-Platteville will host Edgewood at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for Senior Night before concluding conference play on Friday at 7 p.m. against UW-Stout for Parent Appreciation Night.
Edgewood enters the week at 19-8 on the year and claimed a share of its conference title this past weekend. Ashley Bruehlman leads the attack for the Eagles with 3.27 kills per set, while Abbey Falk averages 1.18 blocks per set.
UW-Stout is 17-6 on the season but are just 1-5 in WIAC play. The Blue Devils picked up their first conference win last week with a sweep over UW-La Crosse.
Women's Soccer Hosts WIAC Semifinals Thursday
The Pioneers women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 4-1-2 record in conference play which earned them the second seed in the 2023 WIAC Tournament. UW-Platteville will host the highest remaining seed on Thursday at 6 p.m. following Tuesday's first round. With a win, the Pioneers would advance to the WIAC Championship, which would take place on Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
The first-round matchups include third-seeded UW-Eau Claire taking on sixth-seeded UW-Whitewater and fourth-seeded UW-Oshkosh facing fifth-seeded UW-Stevens Point.
Men's Soccer Heads West for Conference Tournament
The Pioneers men's soccer team also wrapped up its regular season last week, finishing with an impressive record of 12-1-4. The team heads west to UC Santa Cruz for the Coast-to-Coast Men's Soccer Championships later this week. UW-Platteville enters the tournament as the three seed, and will play sixth-seeded Salisbury on Thursday at 4 p.m.
If the Pioneers win on Thursday, they will take on second-seeded Christopher Newport on Friday at 4 p.m., with the Coast-to-Coast Championship being held on Sunday at noon between the final two teams.
This will be the second consecutive season the Pioneers face Salisbury in the conference tournament after the two teams played to a 0-0 draw a year ago. The Seagulls advanced via penalty kicks last year and enter this year's match with a 7-5-4 record.
Football Hosts UW-Oshkosh Saturday
After falling to UW-Whitewater this past weekend, the Pioneers football team returns home for the final two games on the season, starting with UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Titans are 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in the WIAC after beating UW-Stevens Point 66-28 on Saturday. UW-Oshkosh boasts one of the top offenses in the conference, scoring 40.9 points per game with quarterback Kobe Berghammer at the helm. Berghammer has thrown for a conference-leading 2,532 yards and 37 touchdowns while rushing for three more scores.
Wrestling Begins Season at UD Open
The Pioneers wrestling team will begin its 2023-2024 season on Saturday at the University of Dubuque Jim Fox Invite. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. inside the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubque, Iowa.
