Pioneer Athletics Look To Continue Strong Start To Season
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams enter another week of action with conference play beginning for volleyball on Wednesday. The Pioneers soccer programs return home for a trio of contests while cross country hosts the Gender Equity Invite on Saturday.

Men's Soccer Home for Two Games
After a pair of shutout wins over the weekend, the Pioneers men's soccer team will play a pair of home contests on the week. On Tuesday night, UW-Platteville faces Wartburg at 7 p.m. before hosting Albion on Saturday at noon.
Wartburg is 4-0-2 on the year and most recently played to a 0-0 draw against no. 25-ranked North Park on Friday. Edvin Rizvic and Paul Devine has each netted three goals to pace the team while Brennon Woody has allowed just three goals and made 20 saves across six starts in net.
Albion is 3-2 on the year and will host Grace Christian University on Wednesday before traveling to Platteville. The Brits attack is led by Brett Swaton, who has scored five of the teams' nine goals on the season.
Women's Soccer Hosts Luther Wednesday
The Pioneers women's soccer team returns home after a three-game road trip to welcome Luther on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Luther enters the week with a 1-3-3 record following losses to UW-Whitewater and UW-Stout this past week. Maggie Haller leads the team with two goals on the season, but the strength of the team has been the defense, allowing just five goals across seven contests.
Volleyball Begins Conference Play Wednesday Night
With the team riding a 10-match winning streak, the Pioneers volleyball team begins WIAC play on Wednesday night when they travel to UW-La Crosse for a 7 p.m. contest. UW-Platteville then heads to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the Calvin Invitational with the team facing Concordia Wisconsin, Albion, and Calvin over the weekend.
Concordia Wisconsin is 4-6 so far this season and swept UW-Eau Claire last Saturday. Maycee Karpfinger leads the team with 3.12 kills per set and three others averaged over 2.00 kills per set.
Albion started the year with five consecutive wins, but now hold a 7-4 record after a pair of losses last week. Olivia Alexander averaged 4.00 kills per set, while Paige Williamson paces the team with 4.23 digs per set.
Calvin improved to 9-1 on the season after winning all three matches at the Ohio Northern Tournament this past weekend. Aerin Baker leads the attack with 3.50 kills per set and Aubrey Wrubel averages 4.53 digs per set.
Women's Golf Heads to Midwest Invite
After wrapping up the Loras Invite on Monday, the Pioneers women's golf team will compete at the Midwest Invite on Friday and Saturday. The event will take place at the Brighton Dale Golf Link course in Kansasville, Wisconsin.
Cross Country Holds Pioneer Gender Equity Invite
The cross country programs will host the annual Pioneer Gender Equity Invite on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. from the Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City, Wisconsin. The invite is different than most cross country meets, with the women's race starting exactly two minutes and 40 seconds after the men's race. Both races will finish simultaneously.
