Pioneers Look To Continue Strong Play This Week
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville fall sports team have put together a strong couple weeks and look to continue that momentum entering another week of action. The Pioneers football team will play its 2023 home opener on Saturday while volleyball, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer have busy weeks on the road. Cross country gets its season underway at Whitewater and women’s golf heads to Loras for a two-day meet.

The Pioneers football team will play its 2023 home opener on Saturday while volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer have busy weeks on the road. Volleyball Looks to Continue Strong Play this Week
The Pioneers volleyball team enters the week riding a six-match winning streak and get four more road contests on the schedule. The team heads to Dubuque Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Augustana (Ill.) for matches against Rose-Hulman, Clarkson, and Augustana (Ill.) on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartans enter the week at 6-2 after going 2-1 at the WLC Quadrangular this past weekend. Emma Powell leads Dubuque with 147 kills on the season while Ashlee Adler, Powell, and Katie Wright have all recorded over 140 digs on the year.
Rose-Hulman has won four straight matches to sit at 4-3 entering the week. The Fightin' Engineers won all three of their matches at the MIAA Crossover this past weekend and are led by Kate Wood (76 kills) and Megan Korte (66 kills).
Clarkson sits at a perfect 5-0 on the year and have swept its last two opponents. The Golden Knights will play Adrian on Friday before facing the Pioneers later that evening. Sara Galante paces the team with 69 kills on the season.
Augustana (Ill.) are also undefeated on the season at 6-0 and won 3-2 over no. 23-ranked Coe last Friday. Emily Schipper (94 kills) leads the offense while Grace Vranicar (108 digs) heads up the defense.
Women's Soccer Heads on the Road for Three Contests
After picking up a win over Edgewood last week, the Pioneers women's soccer team will play three games on the road this week, starting with a 7 p.m. match at Coe on Wednesday. UW-Platteville then heads to Webster on Friday at 5 p.m. and Greenville at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Coe is 1-2-1 on the season and posted a 1-1 draw against Edgewood on Sunday. Mackenzie Adams and Jenna Aller have scored the lone two goals for the Kohawks on the year while Lilly Monroe has made 23 saves while starting all four games in goal.
Webster is 2-1 and has won its last two contests against Millikin and Benedictine. Malaya Blakely has provided four of the six Gorlocks goals on the year.
Greenville has tallied two consecutive draws to sit at 0-2-2 on the year. The Panthers have scored two goals across the four contests with one apiece for both Katelyn Christensen and Ashlie Johnston Cabral.
Men's Soccer Ready for Two Road Matchups
The Pioneers men's soccer team will play two road contests this week with Webster at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Greenville at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Webster is 2-2-1 on the year with its most recent contest against Grinnell ending in a 0-0 draw. Talha Dizdarevic has provided much of the offense for the Gorlocks with five goals while Luke Dillon has been solid in goal with 25 saves.
Greenville is 2-2 in the early portion of the season and have won two straight. Six different players have scored a goal for the Panthers while Andres Garcia scoring one goal and assisting on two more.
Football Plays Home Opener Saturday
The Pioneers football team improved to 2-0 with a 35-19 win over Dubuque on Saturday and now return to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium for the 2023 home opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Michigan Tech.
Huskies opened their 2023 season last Saturday with a 45-20 home win over Hillsdale. Quarterback Alex Fries threw three touchdowns while Kolby Hindenach finished with 72 rushing yards and a touchdown on just eight attempts. Ethan Champney totaled 148 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win while the defense forced three turnovers.
Cross Country Heads to Whitewater Saturday
After running at the Alumni Open this past Saturday, the Pioneers cross country team heads to Whitewater for the annual Tom Hoffman Invite Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. from the Campus Course in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
Women's Golf Begins Loras Invite Sunday
The Pioneers women's golf team will compete in the two-day Loras Invite this weekend, with competition set to begin on Sunday. The meet will take place at the Meadows Golf Course in Dubuque, Iowa.
