Pioneers Athletics Ready for Week Two of Action
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville fall sports teams enter week two of action after a strong opening week. Men’s soccer plays its home opener Tuesday night, while women’s soccer hosts Edgewood on Wednesday. Volleyball will play four games throughout the week and football heads to Dubuque on Saturday night. Women’s golf is set to compete at a pair of events on the week.

Men's Soccer Plays Home Opener Tuesday
After picking up wins over Wheaton (Ill.) and Kalamazoo this past weekend, the Pioneers men's soccer team will play its 2023 home opener on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they welcome Luther to Ralph E. Davis Pioneers Stadium. UW-Platteville then heads to MSOE on Thursday for a 7 p.m. start before returning home to face UW-Superior on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Luther drew against Cornell in their season opener last Friday by a score of 1-1. Raul Fernandez scored the lone goal for the Norse.
MSOE lost to Wartburg last Friday before picking up a 4-0 win over Dubuque on Sunday evening. Zach Thompson leads the Raiders with two goals on the season.
UW-Superior picked up a draw against UW-Eau Claire on Sunday and will play St. John's (Minn.) on Tuesday evening before traveling to Platteville on Sunday afternoon.
Volleyball To Play Four Games This Week
The Pioneers volleyball team travels to Loras on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before heading to St. Norbert this weekend for a trio of games. UW-Platteville will play Illinois Tech on Friday and take on Dominican (Ill.) and St. Norbert on Saturday afternoon.
Loras holds a 2-1 record on the year after picking up wins over Benedictine and DePauw this past weekend. Autumn Finch (28) and Patrycja Jarzabek (27) lead the Duhawks in kills this season.
Illinois Tech (1-2), Dominican (3-1), and St. Norbert (2-1) will the Pioneers opponents this weekend at the St. Norbert College Invivational.
Women's Soccer Faces Edgewood Wednesday
The Pioneers women's soccer team remains at home on Wednesday night when they host Edgewood for a 7 p.m. kickoff. UW-Platteville opened the season with a win over Concordia Chicago last Friday then drew against Concordia Moorhead at home on Sunday.
Edgewood won its season opener last Friday with a 3-2 win over Hamline University. The Eagles trailed 2-1 at halftime but goals by Rylee Brotz and Madi Johnson in the final 15 minutes of play helped them collect their first win of the year.
Women's Golf Competes Twice This Week
Following a strong showing at the Highland Championship this past weekend, the women's golf program starts the week at the Clarke Invitational on Tuesday. The Pioneers then will golf at the UW-Eau Claire Invite on Saturday and Sunday.
The Clarke Invitational will take place at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Galena, Illinois while the meet this weekend will be in Eau Claire.
Football Heads to Dubuque Saturday Night
The Pioneers football team looks to continue its strong play following an 80-13 win over Lakeland last Thursday when they head to Dubuque for a 6 p.m. start on Saturday.
Dubuque fell in a close contest against Wittenburg last Saturday by a score of 28-27. The Spartans led 27-14 heading into the final quarter, but Wittenburg scored a pair of touchdowns, including the game-winner with just over three minutes to play. Quarterback Ben Gultig threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns for Dubuque in the loss, while Za'Cameron Brice (149 yards) and Torrean Butts Jr. (136 yards) led the team in receiving.
