Pioneers Announce Award Winners at Student-Athlete Excellance and Senior Sendoff Showcase

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic department hosted the Pioneers Athletics Showcase of Student-Athlete Excellence and Senior Sendoff (presented by Tricor Insurance) on the evening of Monday, May 9.

The event honored the senior student-athletes and awarded a Golden Pickaxe and a Difference Maker Award to one student-athlete of each athletic program.

The Golden Pickaxe Award winners were chosen by their teammates and coaching staff. The award is the embodiment of what it means to be a UW-Platteville student-athlete and focuses on four main pillars: academic excellence, athletic excellence, selfless leadership, and community engagement.

The following student-athletes were awarded the Golden Pickaxe:

Allison Heckert – Women's Basketball

Caleb Christiansen – Men's Cross Country

Hannah Fliss – Women's Cross Country

Dayne Friday – Football

Markie Ash – Women's Golf

Emma Ball – Women's Soccer

Claire Bakkestuen – Softball

Cole Stugelmeyer – Men's Track and Field

Paulina Wienke – Women's Track and Field

Abby Feldmann – Volleyball

Brett Schoenherr - Wrestling

The Pioneer Difference Maker Award recognizes student-athletes who made a positive impact within their sports program that might otherwise go unnoticed. The student-athlete chosen for the award was selected by the team's Pioneer Student-Athletic Advisory Committee representative through discussions with coaches and team leaders.
