Pioneers Set For Action This Week
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville spring sports continue action this week with four teams in action. Baseball will play a home non-conference game early this week before heading to UW-Oshkosh while softball plays three doubleheaders over the course of the week. Women’s golf and track and field will compete at invites on Friday and Saturday.

Baseball Continues Conference Play this Weekend
After taking three of four from UW-Eau Claire this weekend, the Pioneers baseball team will play a non-conference home game against Edgewood on Wednesday before traveling to UW-Oshkosh for a four-game series this weekend. Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with the weekend doubleheaders against the Titans set for noon and 3 p.m. both days.
Edgewood is 14-9 on the season and split a doubleheader against Concordia Chicago on Saturday its last time out. The Eagles will face MSOE on Tuesday in a doubleheader before heading to Platteville on Wednesday. At the plate Joseph Kalafut is hitting .392 with five home runs and 26 RBI while Connor Goodwin is batting .360 with 27 stolen bases in 23 games.
UW-Oshkosh is tied with UW-La Crosse for best conference record at 9-3 and the Titans are 18-6 overall on the season. Having won eight of their last nine games, the Titans will face UW-Stevens Point in a doubleheader on Wednesday before the series against the Pioneers. Matt Scherrman ranks fourth in the conference with a .433 batting average while Zach Taylor leads the WIAC with 39 RBI. On the mound, LJ Waco leads the WIAC in innings pitched (49.0) and strikeouts (58) and is third with a 2.39 ERA.
Softball Plays Three Doubleheaders this Week
The Pioneers softball team will head to Augustana (Ill.) for a doubleheader on Wednesday before welcoming UW-River Falls and UW-Stout to Platteville on Saturday and Sunday. Wednesday's games against the Vikings will start at 4 p.m. with Saturday's conference doubleheader against the Falcons starting at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Pioneers and Blue Devils will play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Augustana enters the week at 13-13 with a pair of wins over Elmhurst on Saturday its most recent decisions. Claudia Buchholz leads the offense with a .406 batting average while Morgan Bielfeldt has hit four home runs for the Vikings. In the circle, Nadia Ranieri holds a 1.60 earned run average and nine wins across 83.1 innings.
UW-River Falls sits at 14-10 on the season and 2-0 in conference play after sweeping UW-Stout last Friday. The Falcons will play a doubleheader against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday afternoon before traveling to Platteville on Saturday. Keegan Piton is fifth in the WIAC with 22 RBI and is batting .464 on the year to pace the offense.
UW-Stout is 7-18 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC. The Blue Devils will take on UW-La Crosse on Saturday before facing the Pioneers on Sunday. UW-Stout has struggled offensively, hitting a conference-low .224 as a team with 85 runs through 25 games. The pitching staff also is last in team ERA at 4.49.
Women's Golf Heads to Warhawk Invite
The Pioneers women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the UW-Whitewater Spring Invite at Riverside Golf Course in Janesville this Friday and Saturday. UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh will be two other WIAC school competing alongside UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater at the invite.
Track and Field Competes at Augustana (Ill.)
The Pioneers track and field teams head to the Augustana Meet of Champions on Friday and Saturday to compete on the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex. Friday's events will begin at 2 p.m. will mutli events as well as javelin and hammer throw. The 10,000m runs will take place Friday evening. Day two of the invite begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the remainder of the events.
