Spring Sports Continue Competition This Week
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Three University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams are at home later this week, while women’s golf competes in its second spring invite. Baseball and softball will each play four games in Platteville this weekend, while track and field hosts its second meet of the outdoor season this weekend.

Track and Field Hosts UW-Platteville Invitational
The Pioneers track and field teams will host its second meet of the outdoor season this weekend with the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Friday's events are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with the men's and women's hammer throw with the 5000m run set to start at 6:30 p.m. The remainder of the events will take place on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
Baseball Welcomes UW-Eau Claire
After splitting a four-game series against UW-Stout this past weekend, the Pioneers baseball team will host UW-Eau Claire for a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Games on both days are scheduled for noon and 3 p.m.
The Blugolds enter the week with a 5-11 record and 0-6 mark in WIAC play. Before traveling to Platteville this weekend, UW-Eau Claire will face UW-Whitewater in a doubleheader on Monday and Hamline on Thursday in St. Paul, Minnesota. Junior Nate Witte leads the team with 20 hits and 13 RBI through the first 16 games for the Blugolds.
Softball Plays a Pair of Home Doubleheaders
The Pioneers softball team will play its first two home conference doubleheaders this weekend when UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point come to town. Saturday's games against the Eagles will be at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. while Sunday's matchup against the Pointers start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
UW-La Crosse is 14-9 overall and 0-2 in WIAC play so far this season and will play MSOE in a home doubleheader on Wednesday before facing the Pioneers. The Eagles boast the second-best team batting average in the conference (.321) and are second in runs scored (131). At the plate Jordyn McCormack paces the WIAC in batting average (.520) and doubles (13) and is tied with teammate Kyra Lard for second in the conference in RBI (20).
UW-Stevens Point holds a 14-4 record this season and will play its first two conference games against UW-Whitewater on Tuesday. The Pointers strength is the pitching staff, which ranks third in the WIAC with a 2.01 ERA and a conference-leading 136 strikeouts. Makenna Tkach is fifth in the conference with a 1.48 ERA while Ashley Zygowski is seventh with a 1.73 ERA and second with 71 strikeouts.
Women's Golf Heads to Minnesota
The Pioneers women's golf team will play its second spring invite this weekend at the two-day Gustie Invite hosted by Gustavus Adolphus. Play begins on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings, Minnesota and concludes on Sunday afternoon.
