PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has announced the addition of Jimmie Kaska to the Pioneers' broadcasting team and will be joined by Wally Trouten starting with the 2022 football season.
Kaska will handle the play-by-play duties while Trouten will serve alongside as the color analyst. The duo will be featured on home football livestreams as well as audio-only streams for road football games this fall.
Kaska has been covering the WIAC for 20 years and has previously been a radio broadcaster for UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater football and basketball. In these roles, Jimmie was frequently assigned to cover road games at Platteville, where he would call games for visiting Pioneers opponents multiple times per year. He is also the voice of the Culver's Isthmus Bowl broadcast, which matches up the WIAC with the CCIW during college football's postseason, and was the digital lead for the Wisconsin Badgers Radio Network flagship in Milwaukee and Madison from 2015-2020.
In 2021, Jimmie received the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's top honors for large market radio play-by-play for the second year in a row. In all, Jimmie received 10 awards, including four top honors, for his work in radio and digital media for television this past year. Currently, Jimmie is the digital manager for Wisconsin's digital and social media operation of the year in television for the past two years at WEAU 13 News in Eau Claire.
Trouten brings decades of following the Pioneers and will compliment Kaska's play-by-play with a wealth of UW-Platteville and local football history. Most recently, Trouten provided color analyst during Pioneer football games for the local radio station and could be found last year in the Pioneer pressbox assisting the public address announcer.
The team of Kaska and Trouten along with veteran public address announcer Jon Satterlee will complete the game day experience for home football games in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. Satterlee's delivery on the public address speaker has been filling the stadium and gym of home Pioneer games for nearly ten years and has become a staple of the Pioneers' home team advantage on game day.
To start things off, Kaska and Trouten will cover the UW-Platteville football season opener on September 1 when the team travels to Michigan Tech for a 5 p.m. kick-off. The football home opener where fans can hear Kaska and Trouten on the livestream and Satterlee on the mic in the stadium will be held on September 10. The Pioneers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the stadium as they host Bethel (Minn.) in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium at 1 p.m.
