Pioneers Name Athletes of the Week

SHANNON GAUL -- SOFTBALL -- 3B -- (SR./AURORA, Ill.)

Shannon finished the week hitting .563 with 9 hits, 4 doubles, 3 runs, and 3 RBI's. During the UW-LaCrosse conference match up, Shannon reached base in every at bat of the doubleheader. Shannon scored the securing run in the 3^rd inning in our second match up against La Crosse giving Platteville the 4-2 lead. In a non-conference match-up against UW-Stout, Shannon again drove in an insurance run in the 6^th inning with a double to make it 4-2. In the second game of the day Shannon led the Pioneers with 3 hits, scoring 1 run. 

CLAIRE BAKKESTEUN -- SOFTBALL -- PITCHER (SO./FOREST LAKE, Minn.)

Claire was dominant on the mound with a 2-0 record and a 0.47 ERA. Claire pitched the first 5 innings of the non-conference match up against Stevens Point. She did not give up a run and had 3 strikeouts on the day. No Pointer reached 3^rd base. In a conference matchup vs LaC rosse, Bakkestuen pitched 3 innings in which 2 were of the "3 up, 3 down" variety.  The righthander finished her week against UW-Stout tossing a 7-inning shutout, with 10 strikeouts.  Claire finished the 3-game week with 15 innings on the mound striking out 16 batters and only giving up 1 run.

Men's Field: Bryce Bierman, Junior, High Jump (Reedsburg, WI; Reedsburg HS)  

Bryce jumped a lifetime personal best in the high jump competition at the UW-Platteville Border Battle on April 30^th.  His height of 2.03 (6' 8") moved him to #7 on the UW-Platteville Top Ten List and #3 on the WIAC Honor Roll.  The jump is also #16 on the NCAA DIII Honor Roll.

Women's Track:  Kaitlyn Galgon, Junior, 400 meters (Waunakee, WI; Waunakee HS) 

Kaitlyn won the 400 meters at the UW-Platteville Border Battle on April 30^th.  Her time of 58.89 was a lifetime best run that is #5 in the WIAC and moved to #10 on the UW-Platteville Top Top List.
