Pioneers name athletes of the week, Hoeppner and Gaul earn WIAC honors

Softball - Ashton Hoeppner, Freshman (Winona, Minn./Winona Senior) - Hoeppner went 3-0 this past week and recorded a save to help the Pioneers go 5-1. On April 24 at Wisconsin Lutheran Hoeppner threw the eighth no-hitter in UW-Platteville history, and the first by a WIAC pitcher this season in the Pioneers' 11-0 five inning win. Two days later she struck out eight in UW-Platteville's game one win over UW-La Crosse, and pitched the tenth inning of game two for the save. On April 28 against UW-Oshkosh she threw her third complete game of the week, striking out eight while giving up just five hits and an unearned run in the 6-1 win. Hoeppner finished the week with a 1.05 ERA while striking out 25 batters in 20 innings of work. *Also named the WIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week |

Men's Track & Field - Rodrick McMiller, Freshman (Chicago, Ill./Perspectives Leadership Academy) - McMiller won the 200m dash at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet on April 28. His time of 21.07 seconds broke the UW-Platteville school record and currently ranks him at the top of the NCAA DIII National List. |

Softball - Shannon Gaul, Freshman (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East), Infield - Gaul hit .609 (14-of-23) in the Pioneers' 5-1 with 10 RBI, four doubles, and a home run. She had a hit in all six games and put together three hit performances three times. In two games against Wisconsin Lutheran on April 24 Gaul had six hits and six RBI. In game two at UW-La Crosse on April 26 Gaul singled three times with the last one being the game winning, giving the Pioneers a 4-3 lead in the tenth inning. *Also named the WIAC Softball Position Player of the Week |

Women's Track & Field - Murphy Bleymeyer, Freshman (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead) - Murphy threw a 2' 8.5" personal record in the women's shot put at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet. Her throw of 40' 3.25" got her into the prestigious "40 Foot Club" and jumped her to the 4th best mark in UW-Platteville School History. |
