Pioneers name athletes of the week, Gaul earns WIAC honors

Softball - Shannon Gaul, Freshman (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East), Infield - Gaul had a break-out week in four games for the Pioneers hitting .600 (9-for-15) with five runs batted in, three triples, and two runs scored. On March 26 Gaul had a pair of two-out RBI singles and an RBI double in a 9-7 win over Adrian College. Two days later on March 28 she topped that performance with four hits, two RBI, and a run scored in the Pioneers 4-2 win over Franklin College. Gaul had a hit in all four of UW-Platteville's games and in the field didn't commit an error in 14 attempts. *Gaul was also named the WIAC Softball Position Player of the Week |

Baseball - Jonathon Kelso, Freshman (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook), Outfield - Kelso hit .400 (4-for-10) in UW-Platteville's two games in Jackson, Mississippi this week with four runs batted in, four runs scored, two doubles, and a stolen base. In the Pioneers 15-12 win over Belhaven on March 26, Kelso singled and later scored the first run of the game. Against Millsaps on March 27 Kelso had three hits, including two clutch doubles, and four RBI. Down 3-5 in the fifth inning, Kelso pulled a double down the left field line to plate two and tie the game at 5-5. In the top of the ninth, down 7-6, Kelso doubled down the left field line once again to score two more Platteville runs and give the Pioneers an 8-7 win. |

Baseball - Tyler Vogel, Junior (Mount Horeb, Wis.), Pitcher - Vogel threw four innings of relief against Millsaps on March 27 in the Pioneers 8-7 win. He struck out six Major batters and allowed just three hits while giving up one earned run. |
