Cross Country earns All-Academic Honors

The women's team along with two male individuals of the UW-Platteville Cross Country teams were acknowledged by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in the organization's 2015 NCAA Division III All-Academic Honors.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced UW-Platteville’s Ian LaMere as its National Athlete of the Year for the NCAA Division III Cross Country season.

LaMere earns WIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Year title

Ian LaMere, a senior electrical engineering major and member of the men’s cross country team at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year after his record-breaking 2015 season.

UW-Platteville's Ian LaMere won Saturday's NCAA Cross Country National Championship in record setting fashion. LaMere secured the individual title at Lake Breeze Golf Course, hosted by UW-Oshkosh.

The NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced UW-Platteville as one of team qualifiers for the 2015 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.

Men surprise with 5th place Regional finish; LaMere claims individual title

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's Cross Country team finished 5th out of 38 teams at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, while Junior Ian LaMere captured the individual title. He is the third Pioneer to win the regional crown, joining Ryan Kleimenhagen (2002, 2003) and Tyler Sigl (2005, 2006, 2007).The women's squad placed 12th out of 40 teams.

Pioneer Cross Country competes in Luther JV Cup

The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams competed in the Luther JV Cup Friday Afternoon. Four individuals ran personal bests on Luther's on-campus course in what will cap the season for the participating runners.

Ian LaMere wins WIAC Cross Country Championship

The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams competed at the WIAC Championships hosted at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis. UW-Platteville Junior Ian LaMere (Green Bay, Wis. /Southwest) won his first conference championship Saturday. LaMere had never won a conference championship despite having won the national championship in the 10,000 meters last spring. LaMere pulled away early from the field to win by one of the largest margins in WIAC history.

Mixed results for Cross Country teams at UW-Oshkosh

The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams competed at the AAE Invitational in Winneconne, WI on Saturday morning. The UW-Oshkosh hosted invitational, one of the largest in Division 3, included 11 Nationally ranked Women’s teams and 14 Nationally ranked Men’s teams.

Cross Country Women surprise Stout, LaMere wins again!

The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams competed at the Bluegold Invite in Colfax, WI on Friday. The Pioneer women began the day by finishing 6th out of 17 teams besting both Luther, ranked third in the Central Region, by 20 points and UW-Stout, ranked 8th in the Midwest Region, by 29 points.

LaMere ties Cross Country school record for second time in his career

Ian LaMere, a 10,000 meter track national champion, won the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational at Augustana in a course record 24:02. The previous record was held by Michael Spain of North Central with his 2010 Midwest Regional win of 24:07. LaMere also tied UW-Platteville's Cross Country school record for the second time in his career." Ian has told me many times during workouts that he feels like he is in the best shape of his life, today's results confirm that" said Head Coach Tom Antczak. The 8,000 meter school record was originally set by Tyler Sigl in 2007 while winning the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. LaMere first tied Sigl's record during last year's 5th place finish at NCAA Championships. LaMere said "It felt pretty good to win. I think it's pretty good that I'm running this well this early in the season and I'm looking forward to trying to break 24 minutes at Eau Claire next week."

Cross Country Women win at UW-Whitewater

Competing on a wet campus course from a previous night’s rain, the UW-Platteville Women were able to outrun the competition for the win at the inaugural Tom Hoffman Invitational at UW-Whitewater. The Pioneer women scored 37 points in the 7-team invitational beating Edgewood College by 13 points. Coach Tom Antczak was “proud of how the women were able to run almost 4 minutes faster than last year.” The women’s combined time was 3 minutes and 51 seconds faster than last year’s UW-Whitewater opener. A team’s combined time is calculated by adding the time of the top 5 runners.

Pioneer cross country ready for new season

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s and women’s cross country teams have a total of 14 letter winners returning for the 2015 season. After finishing third and seventh at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, respectively, the Pioneers are hopeful for the new season.
