Williams highlights Pioneers’ first day at track Nationals
Freshman Amber Williams earned All-American honors in the long jump on Thursday on the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
DELAWARE, Ohio – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's and women's teams had three athletes compete on the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Thursday.
Freshman Amber Williams finished third in the long jump, becoming the first Pioneer to earn All-American honors in the long jump. William's jump of 19-feet beat her personal-best by three inches. The Milwaukee native is now a three-time All-American after finishing eight in the long jump and seventh in the indoor championships.
Williams and Alyssa Iserman will compete in the high jump on Friday.
Sophomore Ian LaMere placed 14th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:50, which was 21 seconds away from earning All-American honors. LaMere will have another chance to get on to the podium on Saturday when he will compete in the 5,000-meter.
Senior Patrick Kessenich finished in 19th-place in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 54.43. Kessenich will have a chance to bounce back on Friday, as he will be joined by T.J. Valley for the 110-meter hurdles.
