Five members of the UW-Platteville track and field teams will participate in the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan from Thursday through Saturday at Selby Stadium.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams will participate in the NCAA Division III Championships from Thursday through Saturday at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
The nation's top 22 performers in each event, along with the top 16 relay teams, will be competing.
Freshman Amber Williams will be one of the busiest competitors at the three-day meet, as she will be competing in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. She is one of four athletes competing in the long and triple jump, and the only one participating in all three events. Williams became a two-time All-American during the indoor championships in March, placing seventh in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump. The Milwaukee native will begin her busy week with the long jump on Thursday, which is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
Williams will be joined by sophomore Alyssa Iserman on Friday for the high jump. Iserman is familiar with competing at the national level as she finished ninth at the 2014 indoor championships.
Williams will wrap up her week with the triple jump on Saturday at 3 p.m. She has the nation's top mark, leaping 12.25 meters at the WIAC Championships last month, and will be looking to becoming the Pioneers first field national champion.
On the men's side, the Pioneers have two runners, Ian LaMere and Patrick Kessenich, competing in multiple events. LaMere, a sophomore from Green Bay, Wis., will be running in the 10,000-meter on Thursday at 8:10 p.m. and then the 5,000-meter on Saturday at 5:05 p.m.
Kessenich, who is a senior from Milwaukee, will be competing in the 400-meter hurdles and the 110-meter hurdles and is one of four athletes participating in both hurdle events. He begins his week on Thursday with the 400-meter hurdles preliminary, and then with the 110-meter hurdles prelims on Friday. Kessenich will be joined by classmate T.J. Valley on Friday in the 110-meter hurdles. Valley will be looking to add another All-American honor to his resume, as he recorded the nation's seventh fastest 100m hurdles time last week at UW-La Crosse.
